Pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances,

for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5: 17-18 NIV

A new month lies ahead of all of us. I hope it is a good

one for you all. Last month I passed my year anniversary

for my open-heart surgery. One of the blessings that

came from that, was a new interest in self discipline.

For a few years now, I have been floundering on what

I was doing. All the kids have their own lives, so what

was I going to do? The last couple weeks I decided

to go full force on my art, website, and projects for

my family, I am currently working on my calendar,

planning everything out for the next five years.

I also have been working on my prayer life. For some

time, I have been struggling with praying like I use to. Oh

I pray daily, but not like I use to.

Throughout the years, I have prayed different ways. I

use to write out my prayers in a journal. For years I would

get up before the family, and pray with a list before me.

Then, I would read my Bible. There was a time I sat down

on the couch, and talked to the Lord like He was sitting

across from me.

Sometimes though, I would get overwhelmed by all that

was happening around me, that I would freeze up, and

I would have troulble talking to the Lord. I found myself

lifting quick prayers up throughout the day, but

not blocking out a longer time to just listen to Him

and to just talk to the Lord, and praise Him, and

lifting up concerns, etc…….not to mention asking

forgiveness for my sins.

The Gospels record Jesus praying over 25 times

throughout His ministry, showcasing a regular habit

of withdrawing to pray alone. Especially when a

decision had to be made. He is our example.

Examples of the types of prayers were: Praise,

Thanksgiving, Intercession, Submission/Crises,

on the Cross, and before eating.

In closing, there was a woman in the 1600s whose

name was Susanna Wesley. She was a mother to 19

children and a writer for the Methodist Church. Two

sons John and Charles were leaders in the Church, and

Hymn Writers.

Every day Susanna would sit, and put her apron she

wore, over her head, and the children knew that Mom

was talking to the Lord.

I am still working on how to set up my prayer time. I

challenge you to set up a regular time each day to

talk with the Lord, if you have not already established

a time. We all go through seasons, and this is a new

season in my life.

May the Lord bless and keep you safe;

In Christ, Pamela Depew
